Worked VA math example

The calculator combines 50% and 30% into 65%, then rounds the result to 70%.

Worked bilateral-factor example

Two 20% bilateral ratings produce a 3.6% bilateral factor. After that bilateral total is combined with a 30% rating, the calculator returns 58% and rounds to 60%.

When VA pays at 100% without a 100% rating

Individual unemployability (TDIU) pays at the 100% rate when service-connected conditions keep you from holding steady work. The rating threshold is one condition at 60% or more, or a combined 70% with one condition at 40% or more (38 CFR 4.16(a)).

Common questions

Does this tell me which rating I'll receive?

No. You supply the ratings. The calculator estimates the result of those inputs.

Can I try hypothetical ratings?

Yes. Keep proposed ratings separate from ratings VA has already awarded when comparing scenarios.

Does it handle paired conditions?

It includes paired-side inputs and bilateral handling. Enter each condition carefully rather than assuming every pair uses the same treatment.

Is the compensation result an exact payment amount?

No. It is an estimate based on the selected inputs and rate table. Your actual award and payment circumstances may differ.

Is the back-pay result a statement of what VA owes me?

No. Changes over the period and other payment factors can affect the actual amount. The estimate uses simplified assumptions.

Do I need an account?

No account is needed to use the public calculator.
