Thank you for your comments, [name removed]. Although we are usually able to keep our schedule running smoothly, sometimes we have unexpected delays and unfortunately this was one of those situations. I apologize for any misunderstanding about the length of the appointment when I spoke to the family member who set the appointment. Although our appointments are set for a given time, the needs of the client dictate how much time we use. Sometimes the actual time spent is less and sometimes it goes over. The difference is usually caused by the complexity of the case issues and by the number of real and personal properties owned by the client. No two cases are the same. Clients want the time necessary to accomplish the goal of the meeting but don’t want to take more time if it’s not necessary. In this case, since there was an unexpected delay getting to the appointment with your family, I tried to move through the meeting more quickly to make it up to the client and family who had been delayed. Unfortunately, that probably made it seem as though I wasn’t giving everyone enough time for which I apologize. I didn’t get the sense that there was more to discuss. The note taking you experienced although slow is considered invaluable for the future handling of a case. Good attorneys take detailed notes. The questions that I ask during an appointment are pertinent to the proper evaluation and analysis of the case to produce a good result for the client. At the conclusion of the meeting, I did indicate that the firm would be able to help the client and suggested the next steps to take if the client decided to move forward. The work I recommended, including the preparation of eleven legal documents (plus two more that were not mentioned) plus two future meetings, was substantial, and the fee quoted was reasonable. All the work was mentioned before I mentioned the cost. Option plans are further developed if the client decides to hire the firm. A written plan detailing those options is comprehensive and technical. It takes time to develop a well thought out and accurate plan and these plans frequently require many numerical calculations. I’m sorry for the wait time your family experienced in the delay of the start of the appointment and have authorized the office to refund the consultation fee for the inconvenience caused. Additionally, I will happily offer a second consultation at no cost so we can more thoroughly discuss any issues that we need to talk about. Thank you, Wesley E.
