Very professional and courteous.

Not recommended. Do not invest your time here just because they are free, you won’t receive any respect or support from their representatives. It took a great deal of effort just to get them to agree to back me up, yet they failed to show up on the day of the hearing and didn't even respond to the judge. They contacted me later that day, trying to make me appear guilty and dashing any hope I had of securing the necessary resources. I never understood what kind of "support" this was supposed to be; instead of helping me, they caused me significant emotional distress.

Initially when contacted the representative was compassionate and friendly and willing to help. Upon follow-up after receiving a letter that my case has been closed, I was confronted with someone who implied I was lying to them regarding my income and my integrity. They help a lot of people and I'm sure they do good work, but be vigilant.

Dear [Organization/Director], I am writing to formally express my concern regarding the way my request for legal assistance was handled. I contacted your organization seeking help with a serious legal matter involving my son and me. I took the time to explain the circumstances of my situation and the reasons I was seeking legal assistance. Because of the seriousness of the matter, I made several attempts to speak directly with Toni Kersey so that I could better understand my options and the reason for any decision regarding my request. Unfortunately, my calls were not returned, and I was instead sent a decline letter by email without having an opportunity to speak with Ms. Kersey or receive an explanation regarding the decision. While I understand that an organization may not be able to accept every case, I believe applicants deserve professional communication, consideration, and an opportunity to understand why assistance cannot be provided. My concern is not simply that my request was declined. My concern is that I feel my situation was not given the level of communication and consideration I reasonably expected from an organization whose purpose is to assist members of the public who are seeking legal help. I respectfully request that a supervisor or appropriate representative review my situation, explain the basis for the denial, and, if possible, reconsider my request or provide me with referrals to other legal resources that may be able to assist me. I believe public-service organizations should strive to treat people with compassion, dignity, professionalism, and respect, particularly when they are reaching out for help during difficult circumstances.
