Proof and verification
The Home Depot checks military status through SheerID, through the Military Discount Benefit page on HomeDepot.com or the app.
Accepted proof
Most people verify from data checks without a document. If SheerID asks for proof, upload a government-issued document showing your name, branch, military status and discharge date if you have one. Currently serving members and federal employees cannot upload a military ID. Use a different document.
How long it takes
Home Depot says verification typically takes a few minutes. Time for a document review is not stated.
At the register
The FAQ names only the app Virtual ID or your enrolled phone number at checkout. It does not mention showing a military or VA card, so enroll before you shop.
Without a smartphone
Enroll on HomeDepot.com from a computer, then give the cashier the phone number on your account.
Recently separated
If the data check cannot find your recent discharge, SheerID asks for a document. Upload one that shows your discharge date and the same name you typed in the form.
Privacy
SheerID asks for your status, branch, name as shown on military records, date of birth and email. It says uploaded documents are deleted, and you can black out details it does not need, such as your Social Security number. Never send service documents to Claim Raven.
Verifying again
Verify once. The status stays on your account for later purchases.

Commodity products, including lumber, wire and building materials.
Value priced merchandise, clearance items and prior purchases.
Tool rental fees, labor, services, freight, delivery and gift cards.
Spending cap
At 10 percent, the $400.00 yearly limit is reached after $4,000.00 of eligible purchases. It resets January 1.

No code to enter. The discount rides on your verified personal account, and no per-order limit is stated beyond the $400 yearly cap.
The cheapest way to buy The Home Depot as a veteran
The military discount is not always the lowest price. Compare it with these before you buy.
The $400 cap runs out after $4,000 of eligible purchases in one calendar year, so a big project can use it up early. Clearance items get no military cut, so compare the clearance price with 90 percent of the full price. For an appliance, the Exchange route is the military option, because most appliances are excluded from the store discount.
Does not combine with other promotions, manager price adjustments or national account benefits. Personal use only.
After you confirm eligibility at ShopMyExchange.com or MyNavyExchange.com, you can buy most homedepot.com items online tax free, with the 10 percent military price already built in. Appliances there are 1 percent below the lowest Home Depot price. The Home Depot discount does not stack with it, and the page does not say whether Exchange orders count toward the $400 cap.
Veterans with an honorable discharge, or a general discharge under honorable conditions, can shop the online military exchanges: ShopMyExchange.com, MyNavyExchange.com, MyMCX.com and ShopCGX.com.
Uniforms, alcohol and tobacco are excluded. Online shopping does not give family members shopping rights or base access.
Create an exchange account. If your records need review, follow the VetVerify link; recent separations can take time to appear.
Shopping is tax-free. Shipping costs vary by site, and we could not confirm a free-shipping minimum.
Sign in to the enrolled personal account before checkout. If one item still shows no discount, it is likely an excluded category such as an appliance or lumber.
Cashier cannot find the discount
Scan the Virtual ID in the app, or have the cashier enter the phone number on your enrolled account.
SheerID will not take a military ID upload
Current service members and federal employees cannot use a military ID for this. Upload a different document.
Spouse cannot use the service member account
Each person needs a separate personal account and a separate enrollment.
Discount stopped late in the year
You may have reached the $400 yearly cap. It resets each calendar year.
