The cheapest way to buy REI as a veteran

The military discount is not always the lowest price. Compare it with these before you buy.

The $30 lifetime membership is the closest thing to a standing discount. REI calls the yearly member reward typically 10 percent of eligible full-price purchases but does not promise it. At that typical rate, the reward covers the $30 fee after $300 of eligible full-price spending. Sale items earn nothing, so compare the sale price with full price minus about 10 percent.

No military offer exists to combine with anything. The member reward does not count sale or clearance items, so it does not add to a markdown.

Exchange availability for REI products was not checked. Do not assume the Exchange carries the same item.

No dated military sale was found in the checked REI pages. REI's 2024 article notes that National Park Service sites waive entrance fees for everyone on Veterans Day, Nov. 11.

If the discount does not work

REI's help center says it has no individual military discount, so a code sold as military will not apply. Use REI's own coupons page for current offers.

Your unit or agency wants a discount on gear

Ask REI Corporate and Group Sales. REI says a fixed discount may apply to organizations paying with military or government funds.

A purchase did not earn the member reward

Sale, clearance, outlet and used gear items do not earn it. You can request credit for an eligible purchase from the same calendar year, but not for anything bought before you joined.

A VA benefit that may be worth more

VA clothing allowance

VA may pay $1,053.19 when a device or prescribed skin medicine for a service-connected disability damages clothing. First-time claims and changes to devices or medicines require an application by August 1. Approved recurring awards do not require another annual application when the relevant devices and medicines have not changed.

Apply with VA's online clothing allowance application, or use paper Form 10-8678a (June 2026) and the Claims Intake Center instructions on VA's prosthetics page.
