Claim Status Alerts in Claim Raven

Claim Raven has settings for SMS and email notifications, but a visible preference does not mean that every listed alert type is active or that a message will be delivered. Availability may depend on the specific notification producer, the data available to Claim Raven, your preferences, contact verification, provider configuration, route-specific access or usage limits, and delivery conditions outside Claim Raven's control. Check VA.gov and every VA notice directly; never wait for a Claim Raven alert before protecting a date or completing a required action.

Overview

A missing alert does not extend a deadline A toggle, test message, dashboard sync, or old notification does not prove that VA sent a notice, received evidence, changed a status, or set a date. Read the complete VA notice and check VA.gov directly. If an alert is late, missing, duplicated, or inconsistent, the notice's instructions and date still control.

A preference is not a delivery promise

SMS and email are separate channels. Each can have its own enabled setting, preference, access requirement, provider dependency, and quota. A listed event type can appear in Settings before Claim Raven has a producer that detects and sends that event. A successful test message checks one channel at that moment. It does not prove that a claim-status source, event detector, or future delivery is active. A dashboard refresh does not itself generate general claim-status alerts in the checked product contract. A provider can accept a message even when a carrier, mailbox, device, filter, or network prevents you from seeing it. The checked delivery helpers do not promise retries or a delivery time.

What the checked product can currently produce

Document-status notifications: A narrow historical document-submission path can create an in-app notice and, when its specific preference and channel requirements are met, attempt SMS or email. This is not a general VA evidence receipt and does not make paused direct upload available. Intent-to-File reminder email: A dated reminder created from a VA Data Bridge import can be checked near its configured warning windows when the reminder, email channel, preference, provider, and scheduler are available. Verify the date from the source record instead of relying on the reminder. Workspace deadline email: The checked scheduler is off by default pending end-to-end delivery verification. Do not assume that a workspace date will generate an email. Appeal, docket, and hearing alerts: The product forces these preferences off when live appeal sync is unavailable. Do not wait for Claim Raven to enable them. Other listed claim events: The checked repository has no general producer for claim phases, receipt or closure, evidence requests, development letters, decisions, ratings, payments, C&P exams, or weekly summaries. A visible toggle is not evidence that one of these messages will be sent.

Set up a channel without depending on it

Start with the official record Open VA's claim, decision review, or appeal status tool and preserve every complete VA notice. For a benefit type the tool does not cover, follow the notice's official status instructions. Review the current Settings page Open Settings and go to Notifications. Review the channels and preferences that appear, but do not treat a toggle as an availability report. A preference can be visible even when no event producer or delivery path is active. Meet the channel requirements SMS setup requires a supported U.S. number in the required format, successful code verification, an enabled setting, and an available provider. An email attempt requires the account email, an enabled setting, and an available provider. A particular test or delivery route may also apply its own access or usage limit; the visible toggle does not prove which limit will apply. Send a test only if the product offers it A test can confirm whether one message reached that contact method now. Record the result, but keep VA.gov and the notice as your monitoring plan. Check the official source on your own schedule Use a calendar or another independent reminder for a consequential date. Do not use silence from Claim Raven as evidence that nothing changed. Treat message previews as potentially sensitive Do not assume an alert contains only a generic prompt. Current narrow templates can include a filename, submission GUID, claim ID, deadline title or date, and Claim Raven account context. Use a device and inbox you control, review lock-screen previews, and avoid forwarding an alert to ordinary support. Never send a password, multifactor code, VA identifier, decision letter, medical record, or unredacted screenshot.

What an alert does not establish

That VA received, associated, accepted, or acted on a claim, form, evidence item, review request, or appeal. That a displayed or messaged status is current, complete, or the only VA record. That Claim Raven calculated the correct deadline or that a missed message changes the date in a notice. That a decision, rating, payment, evidence request, C&P exam, hearing, appeal update, or docket event will generate a message. That every carrier, mailbox, device, filter, or plan supports the channel or will deliver it on a fixed schedule. That a sent, accepted, or logged notification was opened, read, understood, or acted on.

If an alert is missing or does not match

If an alert is missing or does not match A preference is visible, but no alert arrived. Check VA.gov and the newest VA notice immediately instead of waiting. Confirm that the specific event type has an active producer, not only a visible toggle. Review channel enablement, phone verification, any access or usage limit shown for that action, provider availability, and spam or device filters. Treat the channel as unavailable until a test or product status confirms it, and keep using the official source directly. A Claim Raven alert conflicts with VA.gov or a letter. Match the exact claim, review, appeal, document, and date. Read the complete notice rather than relying on a notification preview. Contact VA through a current official channel or work with a VA-accredited representative if the difference matters. Use VA.gov and the controlling VA notice as authoritative; keep the Claim Raven message only as a dated troubleshooting record. SMS verification or a test message fails. Confirm that the page reports SMS as available. Enter the U.S. number in the format the page requests and complete the current verification flow. Wait for any displayed rate limit, then retry without repeatedly requesting codes. Use email only if it is separately available, and continue checking official sources even when a test succeeds. Appeal, docket, or hearing preferences are disabled. Open VA.gov's status tool directly. Read the latest notice for any hearing or required action. Do not create or edit a Claim Raven record merely to make an alert option appear. The checked product disables these preferences while live appeal sync is unavailable; no alert should be expected. For a Claim Raven settings problem, contact support with the page name, approximate time, channel, and non-sensitive error text. Do not include message contents, a phone number, email address, password, code, VA identifier, notice, medical record, or unredacted screenshot.
