A sufficiently complete private physician examination may be accepted for a compensation claim without a confirming VA examination. This statute focuses on whether the report is adequate to decide the claim.
A private report is neither automatically accepted nor automatically inferior because of its source. It needs the findings and information relevant to the issue VA must decide. A scheduled examination should still be addressed through the applicable procedures.

Check whether the private report answers the actual issue
A private examination can be adequate when it supplies the findings necessary to decide the claim. The relevant issue may involve diagnosis, severity or another medical question. A strong conclusion without the required findings may still leave the decision-maker without enough information.
Keep the full report, test results and any explanation of the records reviewed. Compare it with the applicable criteria rather than assuming the source alone determines its value. If VA schedules another examination, address the scheduling notice through the appropriate process.
Can I ignore a VA examination because a private clinician examined me?
Do not assume this statute cancels a scheduled examination. Acceptance of an adequate private report and attendance requirements are separate procedural matters. Read the actual notice and applicable rules. A private report's potential sufficiency is not proof that an appointment has been withdrawn.

§ 5125. Acceptance of reports of private physician examinations
For purposes of establishing any claim for benefits under chapter 11 or 15 of this title, a report of a medical examination administered by a private physician that is provided by a claimant in support of a claim for benefits under that chapter may be accepted without a requirement for confirmation by an examination by a physician employed by the Veterans Health Administration if the report is sufficiently complete to be adequate for the purpose of adjudicating such claim.
