B.3.a. Definition: 800 Series Work Item

An 800 series work item is a system-generated message designed to assist (VSCs) and (PMCs) in identifying and tracking cases that require follow-up action. Each 800 series work item has a descriptive claim label indicating the nature of the review required.

An 800 series work item may be generated as a result of maturation of a diary or other system triggers such as benefit details, returned payments, or data related to dependents.

Note: This definition is distinct from the definition of work item in (VBMS), which more broadly refers to tasks that must be completed.

B.3.b. Obtaining 800 Series Work Item Reports

Reports pertaining to 800 series work items can be accessed by selecting Message Work Items in Tableau Workbooks. The following reports are available:

• Pending by EP Group: a detailed report of work items that require attention by station name
• Pending by Claim Label: a detailed report of work items that require attention by station name and claim label
• Pending by District: summary report of work items pending by district and station
• Completed Detail – Completed Message Work Items: a detailed report of work items that have been cleared or cancelled by station name, and
• Trend Summary: charts illustrating pending and completed historical trends.

B.3.c. Viewing Individual 800 Series Work Items

800 series work items appear only in the corporate database. Follow the guidance in the table below when viewing individual 800 series work items.

• use the CORPORATE INQUIRIES function
• select the CLAIMS/DENIALS tab, and
• click on the 800 series work item from the grid view.

VBMS

• open the profile for the claim number in question
• select the CLAIMS option from the top banner, and
• select the 800 series work item.

Note: Details are displayed by clicking on the EXPAND CLAIM DETAILS banner. Notes are displayed by selecting the NOTES option from the top banner.

B.3.d. 810WI – Notice of Benefit Payment Transaction

Work Item 810 (810WI), Notice of Benefit Payment Transaction, prompts review of payments of benefits such as in the case of returned and undeliverable payments, verification of income or dependency, and review of the necessity for scheduled future exams that could result in a change of payments.

B.3.e. 820WI – Explanation of Audit Message

Work Item 820 (820WI), Explanation of Audit Message, is a work item that provides an explanatory message related to case audits and prompts review. Typical uses include cases where automated letters or questionnaires related to payment of benefits are not sent, or where temporary total compensation has been paid for a specified period of time.

Work Item 830 (830WI), Miscellaneous, is a work item reserved for miscellaneous applications.

B.3.g. 840WI –CRSC/CRDP AEW

Work Item 840 (840WI), Combat-Related Special Compensation (CRSC)/Concurrent Retirement and Disability Payments (CRDP) Audit Error Worksheets (AEW), is a work item that prompts creation of AEWs with data regarding military retired pay (MRP) and entitlement to CRSC or CRDP. The 840WI is also used for reviews necessitated by prison and return to active duty matches.
