Claim Raven explanation
What this means
This schedule covers gynecological conditions and disorders of the breast. The codes and notes identify how particular diseases, surgeries, and lasting effects are evaluated for compensation.
The introductory notes distinguish certain normal processes from compensable disability and recognize that chronic complications can require separate consideration. They also identify circumstances relevant to special monthly compensation.
How this helps your claim
This helps you review the diagnosed disability and its lasting effects without assuming that every surgery or reproductive event has the same rating consequence. Use the complete code and medical findings.
What to check in your records
Use your decision, examination reports, and relevant records to check the following points.
- Locate the diagnosis and records of treatment or surgery.
- Identify documented chronic complications and their functional effects.
- Check the specific code's notes and any special monthly compensation consideration.
Distinguish the condition, treatment and lasting effects
Gynecological and breast conditions can be evaluated through different findings, including treatment response, surgery and residual impairment. Read the specific code and notes rather than assuming all procedures involving the same organ have the same result.
Keep the medical description precise and limited to the relevant records. Normal processes and chronic complications are treated differently under the introductory provisions. Any consideration of special monthly compensation is another question with its own requirements, even when it arises from the same treatment history.
Does every procedure receive the same permanent evaluation?
No. The type and extent of treatment, the diagnosed disability and the applicable code matter. Temporary periods and lasting residuals may be addressed separately. Compare the operative and follow-up records with the actual instructions rather than drawing a percentage from the procedure's general name.

| Rating | |
|---|---|
| Note 1: Natural menopause, primary amenorrhea, and pregnancy and childbirth are not disabilities for rating purposes. Chronic residuals of medical or surgical complications of pregnancy may be disabilities for rating purposes. | |
| Note 2: When evaluating any claim involving loss or loss of use of one or more creative organs or anatomical loss of one or both breasts, refer to § 3.350 of this chapter to determine whether the veteran may be entitled to special monthly compensation. Footnotes in the schedule indicate conditions which potentially establish entitlement to special monthly compensation; however, almost any condition in this section might, under certain circumstances, establish entitlement to special monthly compensation. | |

| Symptoms that do not require continuous treatment | 0 |
| Note: For the purpose of VA disability evaluation, a disease, injury, or adhesions of the ovaries resulting in ovarian dysfunction affecting the menstrual cycle, such as dysmenorrhea and secondary amenorrhea, shall be rated under diagnostic code 7615 | |
| 7617 Uterus and both ovaries, removal of, complete: | |

Conditions associated with pelvic organ prolapse include: uterine or vaginal vault prolapse, cystocele, urethrocele, rectocele, enterocele, or any combination thereof. Evaluate pelvic organ prolapse under DC 7621. Evaluate separately any genitourinary, digestive, or skin symptoms under the appropriate diagnostic code(s) and combine all evaluations with the 10 percent evaluation under DC 7621 | |
