Final claim package review
Confirm the filing task and current official instructions, review every issue and factual entry, match each attachment to a purpose, and plan how to preserve the exact submitted copy and receipt.
Overview
Before signing or submitting, verify the action, current official form or online process, every issue, every factual entry, and every attachment. Make sure the package says only what you intend and that you can preserve the exact submitted copy and receipt. You make and authorize the filing decision Pathfinder can organize a private cross-check. It does not choose the form, lane, issue, relationship, election, or evidence item; establish readiness; sign for you; or submit anything to VA.
Start with the intended action
Name the action Write what you intend VA to receive and the benefit or task involved. List the issues Identify each condition or issue the action is meant to cover. Check prior decisions Confirm whether VA has already decided any issue and read the decision notice. Identify the controlling source Use the current VA page, form, online flow, or notice for the action. Verify timing Record the deadline or date you are trying to preserve from the controlling notice or current official rule. A complete packet in the wrong lane can still create a problem Original, increased, Supplemental, Higher-Level Review, and Board actions are not interchangeable. If the action, prior-decision status, evidence rule, or deadline is unclear, pause and use the notice or current official guidance before signing.
Confirm the current form or online process
Review the current official route rather than relying on a saved Pathfinder step. PDF form Online process Start from the official VA form page and confirm the name and revision. Start from VA.gov and confirm the action named on the first page. Download a fresh copy when the saved version is older or cannot be verified. Review every entry and attachment before the final submission control. Read the instructions, notices, and current mailing, fax, upload, or in-person methods. Do not treat a saved draft, completed checklist, or Pathfinder status as filed. VA Form 21-526EZ is the application for disability compensation and related compensation benefits and may cover many original and increased claims. It is not the default response to every prior decision. Check the notice and current decision-review rules for a previously decided issue.
Build an issue-by-issue review table
Synthetic private review structure; this is not a required VA form. Issue Intended action Key facts checked Evidence attached or identified Open question Example only Replace with the veteran's action Dates, service period, current condition Exact files or identified VA/federal source State uncertainty Confirm every intended issue appears once in the correct place. Remove an issue you did not intend to raise and that came only from an educational possibility. Do not present a previously decided issue as a new original issue without checking the lane. Use condition names supported by the veteran's understanding and records without inventing a diagnosis. Keep direct, secondary, aggravation, or presumptive wording limited to what the veteran is actually asserting. Use accurate service periods and dates or label them approximate. Do not file every Case Map possibility A Case Map can preserve sourced questions and educational patterns. Repetition or workflow progress does not turn a possibility into an intended issue, medical conclusion, or correct filing lane.
Review every form field
Identity, date of birth, contact information, and required identifiers. Every service period, branch, component, and relevant Guard or Reserve status. Condition descriptions, treatment facilities, and date ranges. Payment, dependent, or special-claim information when included. Elections, certifications, continuation pages, and attachment references. Signature, authority, and date requirements. Never sign a blank or incomplete form Read every certification and election. A tool, helper, or support agent must not sign or certify for you unless a lawful alternate-signature process clearly applies and its current instructions are followed.
Open and review every attachment
Confirm it is the intended final version and all pages are present, readable, upright, and in order. Check that the file opens and is not password-locked against review. Verify dates, signatures, continuation pages, and related attachment references. Remove an unrelated person's record and unnecessary sensitive information from the filename. Confirm redactions do not hide information VA needs for this task. Match the document to the issue and period in the private index. Review the source file rather than a thumbnail, filename, or AI summary.
Match each document to a purpose
More pages are not automatically better. Possible purpose Question the document may address Current condition What diagnosis, symptom, treatment, or current impairment does the source show? Service fact What event, injury, disease, exposure, or duty status does it document? Medical relationship What specific causation or aggravation question does the qualified source address? Current worsening What present severity or functional effect does it show? Lay observation What firsthand event, symptom, or functional change does the writer actually know? VA request Which exact request, notice, or missing information does it answer? Prior filing or finding What date, receipt, evidence list, favorable finding, or decision does it preserve? Remove accidental duplicates and unrelated documents, but do not hide an unfavorable relevant record merely to make the package look cleaner. Preserve and explain legitimate conflicts rather than editing around them.
Use supporting forms only when they apply
VA's supporting-forms page lists forms for some claims and tasks, including private-record authorizations, lay statements, intent to file, records requests, and general statements. Each form can add its own signature, privacy, and information requirements. Do not add every supporting form as a precaution.
Review the evidence-development choice
If the application asks about a Fully Developed Claim or another development option, read the current official explanation. Do not withhold a known relevant record just to preserve a processing label. Identify relevant private providers and federal records and provide any required authorization. An organizational checklist cannot determine that development is complete.
Run an accuracy and consistency check
Different onset dates across an application, statement, and record. A diagnosis named without support from the cited source. A witness statement that exceeds the writer's firsthand knowledge. A possible secondary relationship presented as medically established. An omitted service period, location, or relevant date range. A frequency estimate that changed during editing. AI-assisted language that goes beyond the veteran's facts. Correct an error when possible. When a legitimate conflict or uncertainty remains, preserve and explain it rather than silently choosing the more favorable version.
Protect privacy
Confirm the recipient and official submission route. Remove another person's unrelated information. Keep full identifiers out of filenames. Do not email a completed claim package to ordinary Claim Raven support. Keep credentials, multifactor codes, recovery codes, and identity documents out of Pathfinder conversations. Store the final package in a private location you control.
Plan the proof before submitting
The exact final form or online application. Every attachment in its submitted version and order. Submission date, time, time zone, route, address, fax, office, or selected claim. Confirmation or tracking number. Receipt, confirmation page, fax report, mailing proof, or intake receipt. Preserve corrections as new versions Do not overwrite a submitted file with a corrected version under the same private filename. Keep both versions, their dates, and the proof showing what VA received.
Final stop check
The action or lane is unclear. A deadline has not been verified from the controlling notice or source. A form revision cannot be confirmed. An intended issue is missing or an unintended issue was added. A factual statement, certification, signature, or attachment remains unreviewed. You do not know how to preserve the exact submitted copy and proof.
Use Claim Package Review in Pathfinder
Review condition names and profile pathways Confirm the working groupings match what you entered while recognizing they are not VA determinations of a form or lane. The package starts from veteran-reviewed profile information rather than an automated filing choice. Review record coverage and drafts Check the uploaded-file list, processing coverage, Strategy Brief limitations, and statement accuracy against source records. Workflow milestones remain separate from evidence sufficiency and completeness. Independently check VA instructions Confirm the lane, form, current instructions, notice, evidence rules, and timing outside Pathfinder. The veteran retains the filing decision and can stop when anything remains unclear. Leave Pathfinder for submission After the package is personally reviewed, use the current official VA route you selected. The related Submission Walkthrough does not itself submit anything. Authorization and official receipt remain outside the checklist.
Common mistakes to avoid
Reviewing only a summary instead of the final form and files. Treating every Case Map possibility as an issue to file. Using Form 21-526EZ for a previously decided issue without checking the review process. Using an old form revision or address. Assuming VA already has every private record. Attaching duplicate or unlabeled files. Letting software convert uncertainty into a fact. Signing before reading certifications and elections. Sending sensitive records to ordinary support email. Saving no exact copy or receipt.
When the final review finds a problem
When the final review finds a problem A prior denial appears in the original-claim grouping. Read the decision and notice. Confirm the issue and date. Compare current decision-review evidence rules. Pause the package until the veteran independently confirms the correct lane and form. An attachment does not match its filename or summary. Open every page of the original file. Check the issue, period, signatures, and unrelated information. Correct the private index and filename without altering source content. Include only the reviewed final version and preserve the exact submitted copy. The workflow progress shows complete, but a record is still missing. Treat progress as in-app milestones only. Review the actual evidence question and source. Check timing and current VA instructions. Do not use the percentage as a filing-readiness decision. I do not know which form or route applies. Open the current VA page or notice. Confirm whether the issue was previously decided. Review the evidence and timing rules for the intended action. Pause before signing and seek official or VA-accredited claim-specific clarification. Return to Claim Package Review to correct the private checklist. Use the current VA page, form, and notice for the actual lane and submission decision.
