Read the Early Assessment without treating it as a decision
The Early Assessment organizes conditions and possible follow-up questions from information already saved in Pathfinder. Review it for factual accuracy and visible limits; it is not a VA decision, a claim-strength score, or an outcome prediction.
Overview
The Early Assessment organizes conditions you already listed and possible questions to review next. It uses saved Pathfinder information to create an educational working roadmap. It does not add a condition you did not list, decide whether a condition is service connected, or tell you what outcome VA will reach. This is not a VA decision or claim-strength score Labels about how much detail was captured describe the intake information available to Pathfinder. They do not measure evidence quality, medical certainty, legal merit, eligibility, filing readiness, or the likelihood of an award.
Understand the result state first
How to read the Early Assessment state State What it means Safe next step Available Pathfinder produced a working assessment from the information available at that time Review every condition and statement for accuracy before continuing Partial Only part of the assessment was available or some analysis could not be completed Keep the stated limit visible, review what is present, and retry only when the product offers that action Unavailable Pathfinder could not produce the assessment at that time Retry later or continue with the information you already control; do not infer a negative claim finding
Review one condition at a time
Confirm the condition came from you Compare the condition label with what you entered in your profile or conversation. Correct your own information if the label is inaccurate. The roadmap begins with conditions you recognize as yours. Read detail as coverage, not strength Use the detail indicator only to notice where more factual context may be useful. A lower or higher level is not a rating of the claim. You do not confuse intake completeness with evidence sufficiency or merit. Separate facts from screening notes A possible relationship, missing detail, or follow-up prompt is a lead to review. It is not a diagnosis, nexus opinion, VA requirement, or eligibility finding. Unverified observations remain questions rather than conclusions. Check the source and uncertainty Compare important statements with your saved answers and trusted records. Preserve not sure, estimated dates, and conflicting information instead of forcing certainty. The assessment reflects the limits of what is known. Choose whether to retry or continue If the result is partial or unavailable, use an offered retry when useful or continue to the next saved step. Neither choice changes a VA claim or proves readiness. A product-state problem does not become a claim conclusion. Progress means progress inside Pathfinder A progress percentage or completed milestone records work inside the guided program. It does not measure evidence sufficiency, claim strength, VA processing, or how close you are to an award.
Use official evidence guidance as a separate check
VA explains that evidence needs depend on the type of claim and that lay evidence can be accepted. VA also describes its duty to make reasonable efforts to help obtain certain evidence. Those official rules remain separate from Pathfinder's educational prompts, and the facts of your claim still control what is relevant.
If the assessment does not look right
If the assessment does not look right A condition, date, or detail is inaccurate Compare it with the saved profile and conversation information Preserve uncertainty when the source is unclear Correct only the information that belongs to you Review the current result again after saving a correction Keep unsupported wording out of later work. If the displayed result does not update after an available retry, contact support with a synthetic description of the field and state. The assessment is partial or unavailable Read the displayed state and limitation Use an available retry once when appropriate Confirm that your saved conditions remain present Continue without treating the missing result as a negative finding Return later or continue with the source information you control. Do not invent the missing analysis. Do not send medical records or identifying details in a general support message. Describe the product state, screen label, and expected behavior with synthetic examples.
