VA Form 21-526EZ

VA Form 21-526EZ is the disability compensation application. Confirm the filing lane, use the current official form or online application, review every factual choice, and keep the exact submitted package and receipt.

Overview

VA Form 21-526EZ is the Application for Disability Compensation and Related Compensation Benefits. VA offers an online application and a paper PDF. Before using either, confirm that this is the right filing lane for the issue VA is being asked to decide. A prior decision may require a different process A new claim, increase, and previously decided issue are not interchangeable. Read the complete prior notice and current decision-review instructions before filing Form 21-526EZ for an issue VA already decided. Pathfinder does not choose the lane.

Use the current official version

VA listed the January 2026 revision on August 16, 2026. Start at the official form page every time. Do not reuse a saved PDF, third-party form copy, old mailing address, or screenshot without checking the current revision and instructions. Both official paths require the veteran's own review. Path What it may provide What to preserve Online application Saved progress, conditional questions, uploads, and electronic confirmation through VA's current flow. The final submitted application, attachment list, confirmation number, date, and receipt. Paper PDF The current numbered form, instructions, addenda, signatures, and current mail, fax, or in-person options. Every submitted page and attachment, signature page, delivery proof, and later acknowledgment. Online start dates have conditions VA says a signed-in online disability application started and completed within 365 days can retain its start date as the date of claim. Save the official application record and complete the form within VA's displayed period; a Pathfinder date is not VA confirmation.

Confirm the filing question first

Is this a disability VA has not previously decided? Is it an increase for a disability VA already determined is service connected? Is it a new condition claimed as related to an existing service-connected disability? Did VA already deny, rate, or assign an effective date for the same issue? Does a current notice identify a decision-review deadline or form? Write down the issue and prior-decision history before assembling the application. Do not add a condition solely because it appeared in generic content, an AI result, a rating calculator, or a Pathfinder summary.

Prepare facts and sources

Current identity, contact, mailing, and requested payment information. Every applicable service branch, component, and period, including Guard or Reserve details when relevant. Each disability or issue the veteran personally chooses to ask VA to decide. Approximate onset, worsening, event, exposure, or relationship information when the application requests it. VA, military, federal, state, and private treatment sources the veteran chooses to identify. Supporting records, statements, and additional forms that current instructions make relevant. A private attachment list identifying the exact final files.

Review each section by purpose

The online application may group questions differently from the paper form. Information area Review focus Boundary Identity and contact Names, identifiers, address, phone, email, and current correspondence details. Check every digit; do not email the completed form to Claim Raven. Service and exposure All relevant periods, components, units, locations, dates, and supported exposure facts. Do not turn a possibility or mismatched service date into a confirmed fact. Claimed issues The veteran-chosen issue, approximate date, and claimed relationship. Software does not select or medically diagnose the issue. Treatment and evidence Sources VA may request and records the veteran may submit. Distinguish records already held from records VA is being authorized to obtain. Service pay and direct deposit Retired pay, separation pay, severance, elections, and payment details when applicable. Read the exact current wording; Pathfinder does not choose an election. Certification and signature Accuracy certification, signature, date, witness, alternate-signer, or representative authority. A draft or generated summary is not a signed application.

Use supporting forms only when applicable

VA's current form and additional-form instructions identify other forms for particular facts or benefits. Confirm the purpose and revision of each form. Do not attach every form just in case or let software automatically select one.

Understand Fully Developed Claim status

VA says a Fully Developed Claim includes a completed Form 21-526EZ, all evidence in the claimant's possession, a certification that there is no more evidence VA might need to decide the claim, and attendance at any requested VA examinations. VA may remove a claim from that program and process it as a standard claim when more non-federal records or later evidence are needed. Do not withhold relevant evidence to keep a label Fully Developed Claim status does not justify omitting relevant information or evidence. Use the current official requirements and answer the certification honestly.

Final package review

The live VA page still lists the revision used. The lane matches the issue and prior decision history. Identity, service, exposure, issue, and payment facts were personally reviewed. Approximate dates remain labeled approximate. Every required continuation page, signature, and date is present. The private attachment list matches the selected files. An exact final copy and submission-proof plan are ready.

If the form or lane is unclear

If the form or lane is unclear VA decided this issue before. Read the complete decision notice. Identify what outcome or date is disputed. Compare current Supplemental Claim, Higher-Level Review, and Board rules. Do not file Form 21-526EZ for the issue until the correct current lane is resolved. The saved PDF shows an older revision. Open VA's current form page. Compare the revision and instructions. Transfer only verified information to the current form. Do not submit the old saved copy merely because it is already filled out. A Pathfinder label differs from my records. Review the original source. Correct the working record. Use only the veteran-confirmed fact on the application. Pathfinder output is not authority for the issue name, relationship, or date. I am unsure whether a supporting form applies. Read the current 21-526EZ notice. Check VA's additional-forms page. Verify the form purpose and revision. Do not auto-select or submit an unrelated form. Use the current VA form and filing instructions. Keep the veteran in control of every issue, factual answer, certification, signature, and submission.
